I’m Going to Grad School…kind of

December 11th, 2008

So I didn’t get into the full Professional Masters Program at UW. Which, I kind of expected, honestly. But, I am being allowed to enroll in one of their classes with the chance that, if I’m accepted later (and this would help if I do well) I can apply this class to my degree. It’s not the full thing, and there’s a bit more pressure on this class…but it’s a chance to keep going. So I’m happy. ^_^

October is a Month of Change

October 31st, 2008

So it’s been quite a long time since I last really wrote anything of substance. And I know that in the past, I’ve given some crazy BS excuses as to why. Well, this time, I actually have some significant reasons for having not blogged. Let’s go through the run down:

  • Grad School – That’s right. Grad School. As of today, I have officially turned in my application for the professional masters program in CS at the University of Washington. I’d been doing a lot of thinking over the past six months about how I was wondering what I would do as far as my future career is concerned. After talking with some friends and thinking about it, I decided that I would like to open a bunch of possible doors and the best way to do that would be to further my education. Since UW has a masters program at night for professionals in the industry, and since Microsoft will pay for it…let’s do it. So yeah, I’ve applied to go to school part time.
  • I’m leaving Zune – Big thing number two, I’ve left the Zune team. I’m still at Microsoft, mind you, but I’ve left Zune. I don’t want to go into all of the specific reasons why, but I will say, I came to the realization that I was ready to go tackle some new challenges. So where am I headed? Microsoft’s just announced hotness. It’s more cloud/internet/services stuff, but it’s a new thing for MS and it’s a pretty sweet idea. So yeah, after a year and a half, I’m leaving the social for new digs.

So those are the big big changes.
I also spent about five days back on the east coast in NJ/NYC. I was there doing some recruiting stuff and I got to visit Syd and my friend Lisa in NYC. It was pretty fun and I’m really glad I went. I may write more on that later, but for now, I want to get back to enjoying my “staycation.”

More Schooling

September 9th, 2008

So I’ve been kicking around the idea of getting my Masters from UW at nights through the professional masters program for a while. Ever since my buddy, H, started, I’ve been thinking about it. Well, one of my friends is currently applying and is encouraging me to do so as well. I had figured I’d wait another year before trying, but maybe not. It’s interesting how over time, one’s opinion can change. But yeah, the talks of going back to school have re-opened.

Going Back, Second Verse

June 3rd, 2007

Sigh…another Reunions has come and gone. The chance to see good friends; to eat drink and be merry in the places of my college years; and in a surprising twist, a chance for me to close out unfinished business. It was an…interesting and ironic Reunions. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.

In one Reunions, I patched things up with one ex-girlfriend, and found my own closure with another. Of course, finding myself hanging out with and having a good time with Sarah was completely unexpected. Singing “I Want You to Want Me” at Nicole with Pat was also unexpected, but it gave me a sense of freedom.

I got the chance to see old friends, get numbers of friends in Seattle I need to hang out with. And I finally felt things being right. Especially at the end of the night.

I had a lot of eye opening conversations. There were quite a few great memories that I reminisced over. And there were new memories, and friends, made.

I was a bit aprehensive about this reunions. I was worried how things would turn out. This was far beyond my wildest dreams. It was pure, unadulterated…awesome.
