Interesting Weight Lifting Book
I’m not really one to do this a lot, but I just wanted to recommend a book I recently finished. On the recommendation of my buddy Lowell, I went ahead and picked up The New Rules of Lifting: Six Basic Moves for Maximum Muscle while heading to Boston a few weeks ago.
After about three times reading through the book, I can say I’m honestly quite impressed. The advice given in the book is fairly straight forward and it makes a lot of sense. For someone who’s been into lifting/working out for a few years, it presented a lot of things in a way I hadn’t looked at them. For example, I had stopped using machines a while ago, but I had never really thought about how silly they are for anything but rehabbing, as the human body isn’t meant to work in isolation. Nor had I actually stopped to think about how isolation exercises like bicep curls really don’t do all that much.
While I’ve only just now switched up my workout regiment based on this book, Lowell says he’s seen some pretty impressive gains based on it. I’ll definitely be interested to see how things go moving forward and I’ll be sure to post an update here with my findings in a month or so.
Also, for another interesting read, check out Mark’s Daily Apple. While I don’t follow the diet, a lot of what he says makes a lot of sense. And some of the testimonials are definitely interesting reads. Your mileage may vary, but if nothing else, it’s an amusing website.
