A good, but not restful, Labor Day Weekend

September 3rd, 2008

So, it seems that I am incapable of having a restful weekend. Seriously, I had an extra day, and I’ve been extremely tired all day. I knew this was going to happen; given that I kept getting up at 9 in the morning. Still, I wouldn’t trade it in for anything. So what did I do?

Well, Friday afternoon, Brad and our friend Justin M went to see Dave Matthews at the Gorge. The concert itself was awesome, but I knew it was going to be. It was definitely surreal given that Leroi wasn’t there. The tributes that were done were very touching and quite beautiful. They played Crash; which always makes me think of past loves and tends to put me in a melancholy mood, but otherwise, I really really like the song selection. Mind you, driving too and from the Gorge can be a bit tiring and I was happy to get home at the end of the night.

Of course, on Saturday, I got up and went with my roommate, Justin Y, to PAX. This was my first PAX since 2005 and I can honestly say I enjoyed myself. I don’t think I needed to spend as much time there as I did, and I definitely felt myself wanting to sleep/go home at points, but I’m glad I did everything I did. The big highlights were definitely seeing MC Frontalot and the Minibosses. The exhibitors hall was pretty cool and getting to play Infinite Undiscovery was pretty neat.

Sunday was a little more low key. I met some people from Sakura-con at PAX and we did a quick tour of the main stage room to check the gear. It was pretty informative to see what all they had. After that I hung with some friends in the exhibitors hall for a bit before I headed back to the crib. After a bit of Castle Crashers and a nap, I headed out to Stone Gardens with Thais to climb. Finally, Thais and I grabbed dinner and some drinks before chilling at her place and watching some episodes of Scrubs.

Finally, yesterday was the re-commitment ceremony for my friends Nate and Terri. The ceremony itself was amazingly short, but the reception was awesome. Good food, good friends, good wine all made for an excellent afternoon. Then there was the afterparty at the vortex which was also a great time.

So all in all, it was a good weekend. I don’t think I ever got more than 7 hours of sleep, but I wouldn’t change anything. Yeah, this was definitely a good Labor Day.

Why Can’t We Do this?

September 2nd, 2008

And by this, I mean Google Chrome. I am currently typing up this blog post in Chrome, and after about 20 minutes of use, I have already made it my default browser. This is amazing. Sure, some might view Chrome as just another browser, but I have yet to see a browser that honestly is this slick.

It kind of sucks for Microsoft, though. We have put out a beta for IE8, and honestly, I just don’t know how to even feel about it. Like, I know it won’t have any of the buzz. And I don’t even know if it will be able to stand up and compete with Chrome. Maybe we’ll get something figured out, but I’m not too hopeful.
