Computers, Cameras and my Website

August 25th, 2008

So…it’s occured to me that I have to be the worst software engineer in the world when it comes to how little computer equipment I actually own. As it currently stands, the only computer I actually use on any regular basis is the laptop I was given at work. Seriously, that’s it. I currently don’t have a machine I use that’s my own.

Oh I have boxes, but they’ve just been travelling with me from Coast to Coast going unused. At the moment, they are sitting in the closet of my office. Totally unused. My old powerbook, haven’t touched it. Mind you, the screen is messed up, but even then, it still works as a desktop…I just haven’t booted it up in a year.

I also don’t have a digital camera. Seriously, mine broke in April of 2007 and I just never replaced it. Which explains why I hadn’t uploaded any pictures since well…2007.

So yeah, I think over the next few months, I’m going to start correcting some of this stuff. First up, replacing my digital camera. Considering how cheap they are now, it’s silly that I don’t have one. Then, I’m going to rebuild my home server. I miss having raided storage that was up and running. And with All of the advances in home server stuff, I really should get that back up. Finally, sometime around November/December, I need to replace my powerbook. Going to get another one, most likely, seeing as how they run Windows now and having my own, non-MS owned machine would be nice.

And oh yeah, I need to update my website. Seriously. Nothing crazy, just need to update the version of WordPress and fixings. As well as change the image at the top. It’s over two years old. If nothing else, I should at least add some different images and make it rotate.

Back to Climbing

August 14th, 2008

So for the first time in 9 months, I got back up on the rock. And it was awesome. I got back up and rocked a bunch of really fun routes. I also came 1 hold away from finishing two pretty challenging 5.9′s as well.

I’m actually rather surprised, I may have pulled one 5.9 before, but I was able to do it a bunch. I think it may have to do with the level of fitness now, verses when I last climbed. I’m definitely stronger, and my endurance is also higher. I’ve also managed to gain back about the same level of flexibility I had at the time. And my weight has remained about what it was.

I’m also really happy because, while it’s not boulding (which I really love), top roping doesn’t have that high an impact, so I can do it while I’m rehabbing my shin. I also don’t have to worry about falling and reinjuring my left ankle. So yeah, it was a lot of fun tonight. Plus, I met some cool people since I was at a gym I hadn’t gone to before. ^_^

A Weekend Away

August 11th, 2008

It’s been a while, which is sad, because I’d been on a pretty good clip of updating.

Anyway, for the first time in a couple of weekends, I was able to fully disconnect from work and man, it felt so good. I’ve been working waaay too much and getting much more wrapped up than I should be. I’ve decided that I really need to break out and do some other stuff.

In other news, since Ragnar, I’ve been having pain in my right leg. Well, I finally went to the doctor, and it’s just a bad shin splint. I’ve been perscribed to goto physical therapy for a bit to get it fixed. But yeah, this has sucked since I wanted to get back into running, but I kind of can’t. ^_^;;

Other than that, life is good. My cats are adorable. I’ve successfully given up Pop, or at least, I haven’t had any in a month. Plus, I’ve been generally feeling pretty good about life. So yeah. That’s what’s up.
