Back to the A2
So I’ve been kind of MIA for the past two weeks or so, and I have a very good reason for it; I was in Ann Arbor teaching at Camp Caen.
So basically a bunch of us figured it would be really cool to go back and teach at camp again. So over the course of the last few months, we actually worked to make it happen; and on the 4th of July, I flew back to Detroit and got back to where not all, but a lot of it, began.
It all started on the 4th, well, not the camp, but the awesome, anyway. I got into detroit around 6:30 and grabbed a cab to meet up with a bunch of friends to party away on the 4th. We started at bdub’s and grabbed dinner before I left to go meet up with my Kristen hearing this band at Top of the Park. I wish I could remember the name of the band, because they were seriously rocking. It was a realy good time. After that it was off to Ashley’s for a couple of drinks. At which point I left Kristen and her friends to meet up with the guys from Seattle at the Brown Jug. I didn’t actually party there, though, because as soon as I got there, it was off to Charlies. And that’s where we partied the rest of the night. It was a pretty good 4th.
The next day everyone bolted for different parts of the country, and I waited for my parents to arrive from Cincinnati. I took this time to hang out a bit in Ann Arbor, and also to grab som Blimpy Burger. I had forgotten just how tasty that stuff can be. Hmmm….blimpy. After that, I met up with my parents and we just kind of hung out for the afternoon evening, which was really awesome. When I had originally planned the trip, I was not expecting to get to see my folks, so that turned out to be really cool.
Sunday morning, I checked into my Dorm and begun my stint as Caen Staff.
So how was the week? It was everything I thought it would be and exactly what I needed.
- The kids: Wicked smart. Seriously. Greg and I had to scramble to redo our lesson plans because the kids were moving faster than we were expecting. It was pretty cool. I’m always impressed by how much some of the kids really pick up by the end. And given this was a week long class, it was most impressive.
- The staff: While there was one or two exceptions, the staff was what i was expecting. A bunch of rather nerdy, but very cool people. Much like how I was when i was in college. It’s always fun to watch people grow up, and seeing a bunch of people whom I had in class was crazy. The full time staffer who worked with Greg and me was actually one of my students back in 2001. It’s funny because we had both changed enough we didn’t recognize each other at first. But there are a bunch of people I’m hoping come out to MS.
- Ann Arbor: My strange relationship with Ann Arbor and Michigan continues. Good friends, good times…if only it weren’t so Maize and Blue. But hanging out in the evening around the city was an absolute blast. Definitely some of the most fun I’ve had going out in a while.
And I’m not sure if she still reads, but, yes, Sarah B, I hit Dominicks. ^_^
God, I’m already looking forward to my next trip to the Ace Duece. Maybe sometime this fall. Who knows.
