PTF Day…I’ve Lost Count

September 28th, 2006

After all of the Video Game and TV based posts, I should probably say something about being active. My blog currently sounds like that of an overweight uber-geek. While the latter is definitely true, the former is quite the opposite.

So how’s it been going? In a word: awesome. Over the past two weeks, I’ve only had one workday where I didn’t get up to go workout. I’ve been continueing my weightlifting and my rowing. I’ve also managed to get a little extra cardio in on one of the weekends (a good game of touch football).

What’s even better, is I’m seeing the positive effects of all my working out. In the previously mentioned football game, I was able to keep playing, and I never felt too winded or tired. I’m also getting to bed earlier. The continued need to get up as got me in a better sleep cycle, plus the working out leaves me tired much earlier in the day. I’m also more awake and ready to work in the morning since I’m out of any kind of haze before I even step in the office.

Oh, and the shirt that started it all…looks pretty good on me, now. :)

Katamari Box

So not all of my video game news was bad yesterday. While at lunch, we stopped by Best Buy and I was able to finally grab a copy of Katamari Damacy. I had played it briefly while visiting Pat at Princeton last year. I wanted te game, but even after getting my PS2, I couldn’t find it here in Boston.

Then I discovered it in Best Buy. I have only had it for one night, but it is truly awesome. I fully understand what people were going on about. And it was only 20 bucks (the original price). Seriously, the game is awesome. I’ve had the music for a while, but hearing it in game just makes it more fun.

Dear Sega, Please Stop

September 28th, 2006

I read this yesterday. I still downloaded the Demo. I was hoping that maybe it was people who just didn’t like the game genre. I was hoping that maybe I’d like it. I’d be able to overcome the shortcomings. I was wrong. And it hurt.

The problem with video games and nostalgia is that it’s easy to get into the rut of, “I love this franchise, this game HAS to be sweet.” I know I was caught by this with Sonic. I love Sonic. I’ve thought the games were awesome. And the thought of a new Sonic game, for my super-awesome XBox 360. I even pre-ordered it. I was so excited. I saw the video from E3. I had the trailer. I was pumped.

And then last night happened. Damnit, Sega. Stop screwing up Sonic.

Sigh…And now I will have to do something very painful. Transfer my Sonic pre-order to another game.

Is it me, or is TV getting better?

September 26th, 2006

I’m not sure exactly when it happened, but at some point, televeision, especially network television, stopped sucking. And it wasn’t just like, oh, there’s a show or two worth watching. No, now it’s, “Hey it’s , oh man, is on.” It’s awesome. I’ve currently already gotten hooked on four different dramas on network TV. I’d keep them on my DVR, but they all broadcast in HD and it just eats up space. Plus their an hour each.

Here’s what I’m hooked on:

  • Justice – I really like the idea of a drama that goes behind the scenes of a high-powered LA legal defense firm. I really like the ending where they show exactly what actually happened, regardless of the verdicts. Plus it shows all of the defense tactics that go into the case. This is just great, especially since I haven’t known what the verdict was going to be before it was said. At one point, I thought a person was going to surely be found one way, and they had it go another.
  • Standoff – I liked the Negotiator. I like Ron Livingston. I know a lot of the critics don’t like it. Even the female lead is growing on me. Of the new shows I’m into, this is my least favorite, but I still find myself excited to watch it every Tuesday.
  • Heros – The pilot was shown last night. I’m already hooked. It’s like watching the beginings of the X-Men universe unfold. People slowly discovering they have powers. I thought it would be really lame, but after a single show, I’m already eagerly awaiting the next episode.
  • Studio 60 On the Sunset Strip – Now, I like Sorkin’s writing. I thought Sports Night was great. I wasn’t obsessed with the West Wing mainly because I wasn’t interested in a political drama. I am already obsessed. Seriously, I keep watching parts of the show over in my head. I’m eagerly awaiting the first dvd collection of a TV show that has aired 2 shows. TWO. The writing alone has been great. There are probably Uber-Sorkin fans who aren’t as into it because of their previous obsession, but for someone who hasn’t been over exposed…I’m on board. Fully. In fact, I’m already excited for watching the show again tonight (thank you DVR, you are awesome). Seriously, watch this show. If you have class or something Monday night, dvr it. If you can’t do that, I hear this Bittorrant thing is pretty useful. Just go watch the show.

So yeah. I’m watching a lot of TV and playing a lot of video games. I didn’t grow up, I just found a way to afford all of my vices.

“Everyone out there has a Super Dome Sports Memory”

September 25th, 2006

I just heard that on Monday Night Football. And Yes, I do. But unlike most of th epeople on the planet, my moment isn’t something I watched on TV. My Super Dome moment is my freshman year at Princeton playing the in ‘Dome as Princeton played UNC. Sure Princeton lost.

But the memories of hanging out with other college bands on Bourbon st. Touring the French Quaurter with the PUB. The Pre-Game concert in front of Super Dome. All of it.

And there is sports back in the Super Dome. Life is good.
