Fresh sheets. Clean cloths. The smell of bleach. Yup, all signs point to a cleaning day. Mind you, many of my days become cleaning days, but today was actually deliberate. Sigh…I love having a clean apartment. I love the feeling of accomplishment. I love coming home to a clean apartment. And most of all, I love the shock most people seem to have the first time they come in.
To most people, the idea of my apartment always being clean seems almost too far fetched to believe. The way my apartments in Seattle were, my current apartment is a complete 180. Something about the apartment being mine really makes it easier to keep it clean. It also doesn’t hurt that my cleaning momentum seems to snowball. I start picking up a few things, suddenly, I’m on my hands and knees cleaning my bathroom. That’s really how it sometimes go. I mean to just pick something up and then…BAM full on clean. Mind you, it’s easy to keep a place clean if you’re cleaning it every couple of days, and always being mindful to straighten up.
But I like it. I find that cleaning relaxes me. It allows me a time to just kind of do mindless work. Plus I can really just think about random stuff. It’s just…nice.
Plus, having friends come into a clean apartment is kind of cool. Especially my friends. They always seem to expect some level of dirty that isn’t there. So far my favorite comment came from my friend Rob: Do you have a maid? No. You keep this place this clean by yourself. Yup. Wow, man. That’s Impressive. I don’t know, I like it. I can have friends over. It isn’t dirty, and people have no problem accepting invitations.
HEEEEEEE
Cleaning is awesome. I think that’s one of the reasons I do it so much. I just like. I never thought I’d say it. Amazing what growing up will do to you.
Life and Times
So far this week, life is treating me pretty well. I have food. I have new video games, and work is moving in a positive direction that doesn’t involve me getting fed up. That’s the short of it. The long of it…
To begin, it had been two months since I had last gone grocery shopping. When I mean serious, I mean heading to Costco to stalk up as if a war was coming. I had picked up milk and other such perishables as they had run out. But I hadn’t gone major shopping. And that was what Tuesday night was all about. Nicole and I hit up Costco for some major food purchasing. I made out pretty well, and I had a great time. For some reason, I really love taking trips to Costco with Nicole. There’s something about discussing food with her that is just awesome. (Plus we amuse ourselves pretty well making funny comments about various products)
Tuesday, before the Costco trip, I stopped by EB games and picked up a copy of New Super Mario Brothers for my DS. Hmmm…new game smell. I’m seriously getting back into gaming. It’s still ok because I’m not completely obsessed, but I’m definitely more excited about it than I have been in years. It’s actually very pleasant, seeing as how little I cared for with the last generation. I even pre-ordered three additional games. Seriously, I’ve got a list of games I want that’s hitting close to 20. Oh well, E3 has me psyched, and I can’t believe I’m saying this, I’m really looking forward to the news coming out of the Tokyo Game Show. But..WIIIIIIIII.
Finally, work is going better. I’m finally getting to move off of what I had been working on and moving to something really interesting. I was beginning to get a bit bored and wanted some real problems to tackle. It helps that a lot of the stuff I had been working on is going live and its working as easily as people had hoped. So I look good and my code looks good. Of course, I’ve got a lot of reading to do to get ready, which should be fun. But hey, that’s part of the fun.
Wow, I wasn’t expecting to write this much. I guess I had a lot more to say than I thought. Anyyyywaaayy, time for bed. I want to get up so I can run tomorrow. (That’s a post for another day) Oyasuminasai, mina-san.
Life and Times
It appears that life is going to calm down for a bit. We reached our milestone at work. And now it’s moving forward, albeit a little bit more relaxed for now. Hopefully this will bring about a much more pleasant existence. Plus some much needed work life balance.
Other than work, I’ve been really wrapped up in the world of video games, recently. The Electronic Entertainment Expo (e3) is going on right now and I’m totally psyched about the upcoming game lineup for XBox 360. I’m also digging the DS and Wii lineup, which means, I’m going to be buying and playing a lot of video games over the next year. The only problem is that a lot of the games I want to play aren’t out now. Sigh, I just have to wait, and probably start saving, since these games are going to cost me a fortune.
I was talking with my buddy Milton about the whole video game thing. It appears that this generation isn’t going to be a complete waste like the last one. Unlike the PS2/Gamecube/Xbox generation, where I only bought an XBox because I work for MS and could get cheap games, I actually feel strongly about games I want to play. I watched the XBox E3 games montage off of XBox Live today and counted 10 games I knew I’d probably by. Even more remarkable was that only four of them were MS games. It’s crazy. And this isn’t even counting the fact that I really want to get a Wii, plus a bunch of games for the Nintendo DS.
Ok, enough nerdery for now. Man, I’m just pumped. Yeah, this is a pretty nerdy post.
Oh, I’m thinking of redoing my site again. I’m really considering dropping all the custom stuff and just picking up standard blogging package. As much fun as it was to develop this system, I’m beginning to think I’d like a more typical blog that I can update on a more regular basis. Basically I want to combine all of my random thoughts about junk into one page. Yeah, That’s probably a better plan than what I’m doing now.
Life and Times
Ok, so I’m writing sooner than I thought I would. Which ultimately means that my life is slowly moving back towards order. Work is still not letting up, but I’m in a better place than I was a week ago. So things are looking up.
What happened? Well, I basically wasn’t feeling well, so I stayed home from work. And it was the best thing ever.
I managed to have a really relaxing weekend. I spent most of it watching TV and playing video games, but that’s really all I wanted to do. Well that and spend time with my friends. Which I did, and it was awesome. Plus Nicole and I got to spend tome time together, which I think we both really needed.
Oh, and my friend Dan’s idea of watching the Kentucky Derby and drinking mint juleps…brilliant! So here’s to friends, huge HD TV’s, walking through Boston, and relaxing. Huzzah!
Life and Times
So it’s been a while. And it will probably be a while longer before I start posting regularly again. My work/life balance (an MS term) is screwed up beyond all get out. It’s crunch time so I’m working through the weekends, and have already worked a bunch of late nights. Nicole’s pretty stressed too with her quals; so I really don’t get to see her that much. Anyway, I should probably get to bed soon. I need to try and get as much sleep as possible. Oh, some good news, Nicole’s Dad hooked me up with a TV. It came last Thursday and it’s awesome. Thanks Mr. DiLello.
