A Public Apology

September 20th, 2005

So I just took the time to look through some back posts of mine. God, was I really that pathetic? Even a couple of months ago. I'd like to apologize to everyone for some of the melodramatic crap that I've written over the past two and a half years. Wow. I really sound like an angsty teenager. Eep.

Catching Up

September 20th, 2005

Today was an interesting day. While I stayed home work due to illness, I managed to talk to some friends from Princeton and got caught up on what is happening in their lives. I need to do a better job of keeping up with people. It seems that I only talk to some people once in a blue moon.

I got a chance to talk to Pat, which is good. I miss the boy, and I really do need to do a better job of staying in touch. I will say it's easier to get a hold of him when he's at school. When he's home, he seems to avoid AIM and E-mail pretty seriously. Sounds like things are going well for him; although it sounds like his girlfriend has seen better days. I'm not going into it, but I'm definetly going to be saying some prayers for them.

I also got a chance to talk to Stack today. It seems that life in Boston is treating him well. It's fun talking to him because he keeps trying to sell me on the idea of Boston, which is interesting, given my desire to be there anyway. It sounds like things are going well with his girlfriend, which is very good to hear. We (Matt's roommates) always liked Sasaha, and the fact that they seem to be doing well is just very heart warming.

Otherwise, things are going alright. I slept a lot last weekend, which was good. I definetly needed to do that. I also got a lot more accomplished on the site. I'm hoping to have this thing ready to roll by the time I head to Princeton for recruiting. As of now, the collors seem to be coming naturally, and I've gotten some of the graphics finished up. So there's definite progress there.

So yeah, things are going alright. Although I'm looking more and more forward to October as it approaches. Joe and Keali's wedding is looking to be a good little vacation for me. I'll get to see good friends, as well as it will be the first time I will have seen Nicole since the summer. Plus, I will be heading back to Princeton to go recruiting (in case you hadn't already figured it out from my previous statement). The best part about recruiting this year is that I'm going to be able to go on the Brown road trip with the band. Plus I just like October. *smiles*

Alright, time for bed. I need to get up and get in at a reasonable hour since I didn't go in today. Lates.

Yes, I’m still Alive

September 15th, 2005

Wow, I have not updated in a long time. I’ve been seriously slacking. Eep. Ok, so yes, I’m still alive. I’m still doing things. I’ve just been busy. Or at least that’s what I keep telling myself.

Ok, first off, our friend Pat White was here. Pat’s a friend from the guy’s internship last summer. He was working at a start up, but he’s trying to come back to MS. He also decided that it was time to come visit the Nerdhouse. Therefore, we had another visitor at the Nerdhouse. Of course, with a guest up here, we all decided to party. A lot. In crazy amounts. We even had a party in his honor. Pretty crazy.

Another big thing was my first league football game last Saturday. I probably haven’t mentioned this, but I joined the Microsoft Flag Football League. I was drafted by a competitive league team (4-play), and we had our first game. Now I’m currently not first string, so I don’t get to play a whole lot, although we’re going to work on that. Mainly because it doesn’t make sense since we don’t have to have guys playing both ways. But I did get in, and I managed to shake things up in the backfield. So while I didn’t get any sacks, I made a mess of things, and gave the starters a chance to rest. And for those of you who care, we won, 7-0. So that was pretty good.

Otherwise, it’s just been a lot of work stuff. Well, that and my continuing obsession with rock climbing. Man I love climbing. Eric and I have been going regularly on Wednesdays, but I want to get back into going more often. I’ve decided that I’m going on Friday, no matter what my roommates decide to do.

I also need to get off my rear and get back to working on the site. I’m to the point where I need to make the changes to the front end. The backend is pretty good. The static content is coming along. I just need to get off my butt and design. I think I’m going to do that tonight. Yeah, that’s probably the best plan. Ok, time to get back to work.

Excited Again

September 15th, 2005

For the first time in many months, I am actually excited about video games. Seriously excited. Yes I was pretty psyched for NCAA 2006 football, but I wasn’t excited about gaming in general. After ending my WoW subscription, I was pretty uninterested in video games. There just wasn’t anything that was out that I was all that interested in playing.

But now things are different. After watching the Xbox 360 Talk at the Tokyo Game Show, I am just incredibly excited. For some reason, something is really speaking to me with the Xbox 360. I know I work for Microsoft, so I’m well away of how much of a fan-boy I sound like. But come on, it just looks so sweet. Plus there will be Japanese Style RPG’s for the system. (finally)

I’m also excited, since Nintendo is rumored to be making an announcement about their next system. I’m not really interested in the system (seeing as how they haven’t put out a system I’ve wanted to buy since the SNES), but I’m interested to see where the industry as a whole is going. What Nintendo does will influence both Microsoft and Sony.

I’m also hoping that Sony has anything on the Playstation 3. I’m not expecting much. I’m not expecting many screenshots, but I’d at least like to have an idea of a game lineup. Or a projected time that they’re coming out. I like some of the things Sony has done. I’ve missed some of the RPG’s that have come out. I may still get a PS2 and pick them up. But for now, what I’m most interested in is waiting for the Xbox 360.

PDC Notes

September 14th, 2005

So I’m watching the Initial Keynote from the Microsoft Professional Developers Conference, and damnit, I want that software. Everything just looks ridiculously sweet. I mean, I’m trying very hard not to drink too heavily from the Kool-aid, but it’s just so hard.

First off, Vista just looks like an operating system I want to use. It’s got eye candy, but it’s not overly candy. I like my Mac, and at times, I like OS X. It has some really nice features, but it is really a bit too candy. And XP isn’t all that much better. But if you turn off the theme, it’s just a greyer version of Windows 2000. But Vista seems to be about having nice user experience and nice eye candy, but it’s not too much. It’s not fisher-price my-first-computer. And that’s just the shell. Under the hood improvements (from what my buddies tell me) are also supposed to be pretty good.

And then there’s office. I typed this rant up in Word 2003 and after watching PDC, I want it to be Office 12. The new layout system is sweet. It’s super sweet. I know there are people in the anti-MS crowd who hate it without trying it, but it just looks like a better plan. I really want to try this stuff out. But I’m going to have to wait.

Of course, I’m also worried that I’m going to really hate my current setup when I get the new stuff. I know my friend in shell already hates XP because of Vista. I know I hated Office XP when I was running 2003 Beta. Mind you everyone hated XP, but that’s moot. Still, seeing it before everyone elseÉhehe, gonna be sweet.
