Quick Note To Self

September 27th, 2005

Get reunions housing. Nicole mentioned reunions and it sparked this thought. I no longer have a place to stay for reunions. Plane tickets I can get closer the event. But hotel space is limited (if I can't get on campus arrangements. God I hope I can get on-campus housing.

Pretty Good Weekend

September 26th, 2005

Wow, it’s been a good weekend. It was filled with good stuff, and I got some things done that I really wanted to. I even was able to beet the largest half-stack of pancakes ever.

On Saturday, I started off the morning by catching part of the Ohio State game. I would have watched the entire thing, but I had a football game at noon. So it was off to that. How did the game go? It went pretty well. Not only did we win, but I actually had some good plays. I got more into the game, and I think I have found a better role than I had before.

After my game, I raced home so that I could shower and change and head to my Sakura-con meeting. Of course, the meeting started at 1:00 and I didn’t get there till about 2:30. Oops. But I did get a chance to catch the tail end of the meeting, as well as get some lighting stuff discussed with the head of Operations. I then had dinner with the staff afterwards.

While I was eating, I received a call from Eric, wanting to know when I’d be at the house to head downtown with everyone. Now I wasn’t even sure if I was going to go. But, since they called, I decided to go. So I raced off to the house, got changed and it was downtown.

Unfortunately, the first event downtown was pretty lame. We were supposed to be considered “VIPs” but we were just people getting slightly cheaper beer. Oh, yeah, I wasn’t drinking beer, so I thought it was especially lame. After it got to be a bit too lame for us to deal, we decided to head out. So we headed up to Pioneer Square and met one of Eric’s friends at a place called Fado, a little Irish pub downtown. I had a pretty good time. I got free (non-alcoholic) drinks for being the DD, and the band was pretty good. After a while, we headed home; where I quickly passed out.

Today was spent doing a bit less, but it felt like more. I started off the day in what can only be described as…wrong. I started by going to the Brown Bag Café. The problem with the Brown Bag is that it serves the worlds largest portions. I decided that I would have the half-stack of pancakes and a side of bacon. Of course, the pancakes are huge; as in a half stack (2) of cakes was more than a full stack at most other places. After digging deep, I was able to finish the entire meal. Unfortunately, I was fighting a food coma for the rest of the day.

For the rest of the day, I literally was fighting off a serious food coma. I was so stuffed, but I had told my friend, Ariane, and her husband, Jeremy, that I wanted to go shopping. (I’ll say what for at a later date). So the three of us walked around the Bellevue square looking for stuff. Well, I kind of trudged from place to place while they dragged me around. But I was successful, so all was good.

After that, I came home and basically just chilled out for the rest of the day. And I never actually fell asleep. So I was able to fully stop the food coma, and I was able to get a bit done. Plus my football teams (Flag and OSU) won. It was a good weekend.

Pray For Them

September 21st, 2005

I'm not having a bad day. The people of the gulf coast are having a bad day. Correction, they're having a bad year. Gas Prices are about to rise. Looks like we're going to be rebuilding another city. And I'm just miffed because I had a meeting. All things considered, I'm having a great day.

Another Long One

September 21st, 2005

Sigh…I should have known today was going to be long. Something about a fun and exciting 9:00 AM all hands meeting just screams long day. I don't know why they always schedule the meeting for this early in the morning. No one wants to be sitting in this meeting this early in the morning. And generally, these meetings are just long and pointless.

God, it's only 10:54 and I'm already exhausted. If it weren't for writing this blog entry, I'd probably fall asleep. Actually, what does it tell you about this meeting that I'm writing a blog in the middle of it. Yup, absolutely stellar.

God I hate these meetings. All hands have always been something I've dreaded, but since our last re-org, I've really grown to hate them. Since I'm in a “platform” team, the stuff my actual team works on is seen as almost non-exsistant. I love getting up early in the morning, only to have to sit through a lot of rah-rah-rah based around projects that aren't mine, and have my project basically get ignored. Sigh.

Alright, enough complaining. I should look like I'm paying attention.

Album Review: Late Registration

September 21st, 2005

So I’ve been wanting to write this for a while, but I haven’t had the time. I recently obtained Kanye West’s sophomore album, and all I can say is, it’s magnificent. It truly is a great album, and if you haven’t heard it, get out from under the rock you’ve been living under and get it. Please.

Seriously, this album is awesome. I like College Dropout (his first album); it’s got a lot of really good tracks, but I feel that this latest album is head and shoulders better. In terms of being a complete work, it displays a range of musical understanding and it highlights West’s ability to weave together lyrics, beats, and instrumentation.

I generally just find the album to be very appealing. It’s the kind of album that I can listen to from start to finish. There are tracks I’m not fond of, but that’s generally true for every album. But even the tracks I don’t like, I find to be really well done. So go out, get this album, and listen to it.
