This is Just Absurd
So this was put up on Slashdot yesterday. I’ve already started to look through the draft and my only opinion is that this is just a stupid idea. The drafter is basically wants some internet standard that he can be the ÒcreatorÓ of. Now I use quotes there because RSS 3.0 is basically RSS 2.0++. It’s just RSS 2.0 with some additions.
Now personally, I think this is just asinine. There are already three major feed types. Hell, I support all of them. I’m not even sure why Atom really exists. I personally think that the W3C needs to get together and just announce which version they support. Right now, the biggest pain is on developers. It’s up to the person creating the validator to be able to deal with all these standards.
Thankfully, I don’t think anyone is going to latch onto this particular type of feed. Since it follows a lot of what RSS 2.0 follows, it’ll probably be pretty niche. Especially since it isn’t supported by any of the major blogging software packages out on the market. And it doesn’t seem like anyone is interested in picking up the standard, given the reaction by the creator on his blog to some of the responses. (My personal favorite is someone saying he should be stabbed for doing this.)
