Anime Upswing

March 30th, 2004

As the title says, I've been recently watching a lot of anime (Japanese animation). Not so much that I'm not working, but definitely more than I've watched in say, the past year or so. It's really interesting. I had forgotten how much I like anime. I guess I just hadn't taken the time to really watch it.

It all started a few months ago when I downloaded the series Hellsing. I had wanted to see it for over a year but I didn't know anyone who had it. I then found a website that specializes in anime downloads. I got the series there and just kind of got back into anime.

So far, I think I've been the most impressed with the series Full Metal Alchemist. It's currently only in fansub (anime not commercially released in the united states that is subtitled by fans here), but it's should be here soon, if the distributors have any clue at all. Some other stuff I've been into has been Love Hina (like Tenchi Muyo, but without the aliens), Get Backers (not even going to try to explain), and Rurouni Kenshin.

What's interesting is, that besides the anime series themselves, I've also been really into the music. I've been downloading a lot of the soundtracks and listening to them on my iPod. I've found that various series music fits various moods and it's just really good stuff.

The soundtracks I've been listening to the most have been Cowboy Bebop Remixes: Music to Freelance to and the Hellsing: Original Soundtrack. I've been listening to others, but these are the two that have captured the most of my attention.

So that's what's new with that. Otherwise, life has been good. I'm getting all of my computers to act nicely together, which is good. I just started getting my laptop and linux computer to start synching up. So everything with that has been cool. I've definitely been having a few Serial Experiments Lain moments; having all of my computers up and interacting with people on all of them. I'm sometimes impressed by my ability to handle working on three computers simultaneously.

So yeah, otherwise I'm good. I got offered a job today out of the blue. Apparently an alum of the CS department (class of '00) was browsing the CS site looking for people, read my resume and asked if I was interested. I had to turn them down because of the whole Microsoft thing, but I did send their info on to my friend Brad who I know is looking for an internship.

Finally, I wanted to send out a big congrats to Sydney, who received her official acceptance to Northwestern today. She's 8 for 8 in terms of getting into her various schools. Way to go. I know she's probably not going to go there, but it's an honor still.

Alright, that's enough of that. Time for bed. Good night all.
