A Quick Comment on Princeton Students

March 23rd, 2004

This was something I sent to the unix group list in regards to a presentation on linux I saw yesterday. The comments I'm responding to belong to my roommate, Matt:

Is it worth officially recognizing and teachinglinux when the “goal” of undergrad departments is to churn out microsoft employees, financiers, and consultants?

I think this is more the undergrads than theundergrad departments.Essentially, Princeton students are tools of theman. We can easily bebought, it's just a matter of meeting our usuallyasking price. As much as wedon't want to admit it, we're institution kids. Alot of our parents workedfor law firms, banks, major companies, etc, and wesee no problem with doingso ourselves. It helped feed our lifestyle, and wewant to continue on inthat vein. It's us, not the departments that aredoing this.
