This Only Took 48 Hours

December 23rd, 2003

So I'm back in Cincinnati, which is fun. I've been here now for just under 36 hours and yeah. I'm not completely bored out of my skull yet, although I could easily get there. I'd really have to want it, but it's possible. Not much is currently happening. Hopefully i can go out tonight with someone and see return of the king. Although if I can't find anyone, that's ok too.

So what have I been up to? To begin, yesterday was spent traveling, which tends to be rather annoying. I did take some notes before gettigon the plane though which you may find interesting.

10:51 AM: (Current Music: Metallica – Enter Sandan) – I made it on the train. Actually, the conductor waited for me. Pretty unusual considering how the dinky tends to just shut the door and leave people. He proably saw that I was dressed like a traveler and decided to show me a little bit of mercy. Hmm….I wonder if I forgot anything. I hope not. If I did, well, it's too late now. Not much I can do about it. Seeing as how I'm on a New Jersey Transit train to Newark Airport.

This train care isn't too clean. It appears tat someone spilled coffee on the floor and now it's been spread around here. It is always weird to be on one of these trains. There are always interesting people on them. Seeing as what time it is on a Sunday, it's interesting to see the mix of peple. There are some nicely dressed couples on the bus, apperently heading to New York for the day. There are a few families, and the guys next to me appear to be twenty somethings off to do something trendy. Mind you, my biases are saying this, but still.

I wonder what they think i'm about. Here is some young twenty-something sitting down on a New Jersey Transit train with a laptop typing away. I've got my headphones on, I must look a bit…different. Not that anyone is even looking at me. That's something I like about being on the train, no one really cares what you are doing. They are just minding their own business. I can work in piece and no one will bother me. Hell, no one even wants to sit in the seat accross from me. Yay Personal Space.

12:22 PM: (Current Music: Beethoven – Fur Elise”) – Made it through security in one piece. Thankfully. I have about half an hour before they plane will begin boarding (in theoryO. The plane will probably be late. Oh well.

Man I'm tired. I didn't get much sleep last night. It's my own fault; I stayed up talking to nicole till three, and then taking care of some last inute things, I idn't go to slee till 4:30. Yeah, that wasn't the smartest thing I could have done, but well, I valued talking to Nicole more than I valued the amount of sleep I would get. Sleep….woman…..sleep….woman. Oh well.

Think I'll work some more on my site before I have to shut this down. I've been making small additions to the site on this laptop. I plan to make an update when I get back to school. I think that will be the best plan. Not going to trickle through uprades. Going to have one serious update (to what you guys see, I'll probably continue to trickle in the back end administration stuff that I've been lazy about). What will it be? Well, you'll just have to wait and see.

Yeah, so there would have been more stuff like that, but well, I got home, got the idea to call my friend Keagen and any hopes of writing a blog post, or even commenting further were killed. It was cool though. I ended up in a pub talking with Keagen, a girl I went to high school with, Taylor, and our friend Noel. That was cool, and that evening ended with Keagen, Noel and I discussing color theory and how stringed instruments make noise at one in the morning.

As for today, pretty chill, generally. I got up around 2:00, ate with my dad at a local chain of sandwhich shops, and bought new shoes. After that I met up with my friends Ronjan, Phil, and Erica (who happens to be taking a break from school over in Japan). That was fun, we threw a football around and talked till Phil and Erica had to go. Then Ronjan and I went down to Taylor's and waited for Keagen to show up. We were orginally going to go to a jazz club, but we ended up staying at Taylors and watching Top Secret. My friend Craig also arrived, having come from Columbus and that was a cool time. We finished Top Secret and everyone went their seperate ways. So, that was my day in a nutshell.

So besides that, I've discovered a few things. One, a lot more people read this site than I ever realized. They just choose not to comment on anything. Very interesting indeed. Secondly, people I know from high school are engaged / married (congrats to Trevor and Todd), which is pretty scary. And I also was made aware that Craig and I have known each other since kindergarten, which makes us each others longest standing friend made outside of the family. That's pretty cool, I hadn't even thought to think about it. So cheers to Craig.

So yeah, this post, finally done. I've only been writing it in parts for…oh…48 hours. But it's done. Hopefully the next couple of updates will stay more regular. Later all.

Of Clean Rooms and IPod Warrenties

December 21st, 2003

First off, I cleaned the room today. All day. The room is pretty spotless, which is great. Of course, I didn't get up to White Plains like I had wanted. That sucks. I will have to go up next month when I get some time after finals. *shrugs*

Secondly, I'm heading home tomorrow. I'm really looking forward to break. I have work to do still, but it will be good to get home. I need a break. I want to spend time with my family. I can't wait to go out to Colorado and see my cousins. I can't wait to ski. I can't wait to get out of friggen Jersey for more than two days. But that's just me.

Finally, I read this today, and man it's a bit worrysome. Fortunatly, I have with me at this very moment, a copy of the reciept showing that I purchased a 4 year warrenty on my iPod from Best Buy. Man am I glad I did. Reading on slashdot, people were saying that the only people this is a problem for are those who listen to their iPods all the time. For anyone who knows me, this is me. I listen to it all the time, and I noticed the battery wasn't holding as well as it used to before I read about this a few months ago. *shades head*

My dad always gets on me about buying warrenties. He's told me that it's a dumb idea and that it's a waste of money. I sometimes find it hard to believe that it always is. Fourty dollars to ensure that if something happens to my iPod, i get it taken care of seems like a good idea. I bought the warrenty because my Nomad Jukebox got damaged. I used it every day, the same way I use my iPod, but it wasn't able to survive. I remember how excited I was to get it, and how bumbed I was when the headphone jack died.

I know my iPod is slowly dying. It doesn't hold charge like it used to. It's a shame that apple couldn't think of a better design in terms of batteries. It sucks that there are a lot of people who will have to shell out at least 99 bucks to get their situations resolved. I'm just glad that I made the decision to spend an extra 10% over a year ago (still less than 50% of a new battery) to make this a non-issue. I love you dad, but I think this may be one time when getting the warrenty was the smartest move I could have made.

And My Limit Has Been Reached

December 20th, 2003

After thirteen and a half weeks, I can no longer keep working. I am tired. Correct that, exhausted. There is work to be done still, but I can't do it any more. I need to break. Truly. None of this, reading a little here, coding a little there. I need to break.

I've gotten very little done today. I've figured out how to do what I need to in order to finish the coding part of my indi-work last few little sections, but I can't bring myself to code it. I'm ok with this. I've worked hard all semester, and it's time to break. I worked through fall break, I've made it this far. The strongest people I know went this far, and we're all exhausted.

I was up this morning at 7:00 AM to make sure Julie was up to make her train. She had to be at the airport at 9:15 to give herself an hour and a half before take off. Julie has been working like a fiend, and she hasn't been getting a great deal of sleep. But I got her on the plane. It's safe to say that she's tired. I understand how she must feel. Getting work done this week has been a struggle. It's not as productive as I would have liked it to be, but it was good. I stayed busy, i got stuff done. I can leave feeling good about that.

Tomorrow I will clean the room, and possibly go up to White Plains. Depends on how quickly I get moving. I want to go up to WP and see my grandmother before I go back to the mid-west. I think if I start early and hit the room hard, I can make it.

Getting home will be good. I'll probably crash and laze around, but I need to do that. It will be good for me. *nods* I'll get work done on various things, both academic and not, which will also be good. But for now, I must relax. That's all I can hope to do right now. Trying to do anything else woudl just be silly. Night all.

Yay Being Productive

December 17th, 2003

So the past couple of days have been productive. I've gotten this paper written, worked on my independent work, and I've even managed to get this laptop mostly configured. It's definetly been a good couple of days, although, they could have been better. But that's life.

So, staying here has been a good plan. I've managed to get work done which has been good. I'm glad I decided to stay. I should be able to get down to cincy with a good chunk of my work out of the way. It also gives me some time to do things like make sure the room is clean before I leave (this is very important). Did I mention how much I've been able to download since there is no one on the network? It's faboulous.

The other thing I have had the chance to do is get this laptop configured for my travels. I bought my roommates old laptop with some cash I had from TAing. It's not the fastest machine (500 mhz 128 megs of RAM), but it definetly gets the job done. It's running Mandrake Linux, and plugging along well. It's not as fast as my other development machine, that's ok, I'm not expecting it to be. It compiles code, it parses php, it runs apache and mysql. That's all it needs to do. The fact that its got a sound card that functions is an added bonus.

Besides that, I haven't done much of else. I get up, I work, I eat, I work some more, I sleep. I have taken some time out to enjoy myself. I finished watching Hellsing which is pretty good. I enjoyed it immensly. Other than that, not much has been going on. As I said earlier, it's pretty quiet here on campus. Which is nice. Although, I do look forward to people being on campus again.

Alright, that's enough for tonight. Good by all.

Bored Mid Day Posts

December 15th, 2003

Alright, I'm bored. Mind you, I'm in the friend center and it's over break. The only people in this library other than me are grad students. Ok, i should be writing. I've just lost some of the motivation. *bangs head against the wall* I must be strong. Gotta keep plugging away. Maybe I'll grab a hoagie and rock some more work. Yeah, that'd be great. Hmm….ok, more updates after work.
